Speech recognition for the entrepreneur

I am an entrepreneur: I run a speech recognition training and consulting business in the Netherlands and have been self-employed for over 7 years now. Like many enterpreneurs and emplyees alike, I am fairly busy most of the time and sometimes I am BUSY. Perhaps you know what I mean :-).

Are you busy too? Do you write lots of articles, emails and blogposts?

Dragon speech recognition offers handsfree productivity

The latest generation of speech recognition software is very advanced! It works like this: As soon as I know what I want to write, I can just switch on the microphone and speak it out loud. Not only do I spare my hands and arms from overuse, but I can create a text more quickly than I could ever type. Any editing you want to do, you can do by mouse and keyboard. But you don’t have to! You can do practically anything by voice.

Because I am also proficient in using speech commands, I prefer to edit my texts by voice as well. Although I must admit I browse longer documents by scrolling the mouse. It is my experience that everyone finds their own balance between dictation/speech commands and keyboard/mouse.

Entrepreneurs

For entrepreneurs and small business owners who write blog posts, emails or other documents, Dragon can be a real time saver. Personally I create nearly all my blog posts and emails with Dragon. Also my course materials are usually dictated. It really increases my productivity as an entrepreneur (or solopreneur, as some call it). If you are a content creator and you haven’t used

Dragon speech recognition yet, you really should consider it.

Great speech commands

It would be a mistake to think that Dragon can only be useful for dictation, however. Dragon Professional Individual has many, many built-in commands that you can use to speed up your work. And it also has apowerful way for creating custom commands.

Back when I worked for a boss I had to use a certain time registration program. Selecting the date, number of hours, project etc. was a bit of a hassle. One day I spent 30 minutes crafting speech commands. The result was that I could simply say: “45 minutes billable travel time today” or “two hours <project name>  yesterday”. Great!

And now I have a cool command in Photoshop Elements that will save the current image for the web as a png with a maximum width of 800 pixels. It is a blessing to have these speech commands for repeating actions. A real productivity booster.

Demo

For a previous blog post I created a short demo to show you a bit of dictation and a few of Dragon’s built-in commands. Please be aware that I’ve kept the pace of dictation a bit slow, so that you can follow what’s going on on the screen. Dragon allows for faster dictation, no worries!

Hi, I'm Janneke and I'm your go-to person for Dragon speech recognition software help.

When I got severe repetitive strain injury issues over 20 years ago, I didn't want to give up using the computer. So I learned all about controlling the PC with speech recognition and dictating my documents and emails.

I've now been a speech recognition software trainer and consultant for almost two decades, teaching over 2000 people handsfree productivity!

My online courses offer self-paced learning and I also love running my membership for Dragon users. For those in need of an intensive training or custom speech command creation, I am available for one-on-one calls.
